A Few Favorite Famous Vegans [and vegetarians!]

You would be surprised just how many of your favorite celebrities and idols have chosen to live a meat-free lifestyle. Here are a few of our favorites (in no particular order)...

Erykah Badu  - February 26, 1971
This Queen has broken the 40 mark and is still one of my favorites in the music industry. She lives an 100% vegan lifestyle and is also a certified Reiki practitioner and Doula (midwife). One of my idols!

Andre 3000 - born May 27, 1975
He's one half of the Outkast duo and now working on his acting career. He is an activist for animal rights and was voted "World's Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity" in 2004 by PETA. I guess he is a handsome fella..

Common - born March 13, 1972
Once a vegan, Common has now added fish back to his diet and become pescetarian. He is an activist for animal rights and PETA as well. We don't love you any less Common!

Vanna White - February 18, 1957
This vegan beauty shares a birthday with me! She will be turning 55 this year and has had a consistent job turning letters on the Wheel of Fortune since 1982! Still looking good too, Vanna!

Venus and Serena Williams - born June 17, 1980 and September 26, 1981
These tennis-star sisters have converted to a Raw Vegan diet after Venus was diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome. Sjogren's is an "incurable" disease of the immune system which affects the body’s moisture-producing glands. Severe cases can lead to arthritis and joint pain. She has also added yoga to her workout regime and is exploring holistic ways to treat the illness. Serena has joined her on this journey for moral support!

Ellen Degeneres - January 26, 1958
ELLEN!!! Who doesn't love her!? Not only is she a vegan, but she reps the LGBT community and is a fellow Aquarius like myself :) Plus, who could forget her as Dory in Finding Nemo? She hosts her own vegan blog and I believe she is working on a vegan restaurant and vegan dog food.

Prince - June 7, 1958
Another youthful and sexy 50-something artist and vegetarian. I greatly respect this man and his views. He was voted "World's Sexiest Vegetarian" in 2006 by PETA. Doesn't he still look good!? (Shout out to the amazing dancer in that pic too!..Misty Copeland)

Alice Walker - February 9, 1944
This amazingly spiritual woman is most known for writing The Color Purple. She is an amazing writer and poet, vegetarian, and gardener (and Aquarius!)..not to mention, she looks DAMN GOOD at 67!

Albert Einstein - March 14 1879 – April 18 1955
There is a lot of controversy over whether or not Einstein maintained a vegetarian diet. Either way, he supported! A few quotes include,   "So I am living without fats, without meat, without fish, but am feeling quite well this way. It always seems to me that man was not born to be a carnivore."
"Although I have been prevented by outward circumstances from observing a strictly vegetarian diet, I have long been an adherent to the cause in principle. Besides agreeing with the aims of vegetarianism for aesthetic and moral reasons, it is my view that a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind."

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." -Albert Einstein

GO EINSTEIN!

Angela Bassett - August 16, 1958
Now we are all familiar with this acting woman and she still looks gorgeous, might I add. How does she do it? Her vegetarian diet :) I guess she'll pass on the cake, AnnaMae!
“I love vegan choices, raw food choices, and I’ll eat whatever I have to in order to get into whatever shape I need to get into for any one particular role,” -Angela Bassett

Michael Jackson - August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009

“I’m a vegetarian now and I’m so much thinner. I’ve been on a strict diet for years. I feel better than I ever have, healthier and more energetic,” Michael said in his book, Moonwalk. LaToya Jackson, as well as Michael’s father Joe, are also said to be vegetarians.

I do not believe his death story or even the fact that he was sick. Perhaps poisoned or maybe a planned faked death. Either way, long live Mike!

The Roots
Straight out of Philadelphia, the entire band is vegan! They have worked closely with PETA on campaigns such as "Stop The Violence" and their music has sensible lyrics with a positive message. Real Hip-Hop changing the game through the vibration of sound.

Betty White - January 17, 1922
Everyone's favorite Golden Girl! This comedic actress is vegan, an animal activist, and animal health advocate. She has been a board member of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo association since 1974. Not to mention, she will be 90 this month! Happy bEarth-day Betty!

Ru Paul - November 17, 1960
2 words. Vegetarian + DragQueen. Work honey! This superstar has managed to still be the most infamous drag queen to date, even at 51. I trust there will be many more years (and TV shows) of Ru Paul to come!

Now, this is just a FEW of the MANY! I may do another post with some more veggie-friendly folks if you aren't yet convinced! :)

Humbly, Peax & Love
