5 Fun (and sometimes unnecessary) Kitchen Appliances for Vegans!

We have compiled a list of 5 appliances we can probably live without but are just too fun to use - for vegans! After all, the only tools you really need, are your hands and imagination! Enjoy! :)

1. Jack LaLanne Juicer (or any juicer!)
This makes for quite a handy tool and was actually the FIRST investment I made on my journey to wellness. Bye-bye Tropicana - Hello fresh squeezed OJ :) This juicer leaves behind a mound of pulp that is excellent to throw in smoothies or even make veggie burgers. Speaking of veggie burgers, we have an amazing beet burger that you all would love! Recipe coming soon! Some would say this isn't the best juicer, but it does the job and ranges from $100-$150.

**RAW on a Budget: If you don't have a juicer, you can always blend the desired ingredients and strain the juice into a jar/glass using a nut bag. Fresh almond milks can be made with a nut bag as well! A nut bag ranges from $6-$12.

2. Vitamix or Blentec

This is our most recent addition to the RAW Vegan Appliance family. We finally got our Vitamix! Now, in the health food world..this is a BIG thing - lol. This blender can chop pretty much anything that encounters it. It has a 10 speed dial, allowing you to achieve different textures and a high switch that pulverizes!.We have made smoothies, homemade sauces and condiments, raw ice cream, and soups! Leaving it on for a few minutes will warm your soup to a temperature of about 110 degrees. Still RAW :) This is great for times when you may have warm food cravings - but I digress.. on to the price tag! These machines range from $400-$650, with their competitor Blentec matching them but offering an in-counter option and digital capability - definitely an investment.

3. Magic Bullet
I love this thing! I comes in a 17 piece or 25 piece set equipped with 2 different chopping blades, personal cups, mini cups, shaker tops, and a juicer attachment (never used that part though). We do everything with this from pulverizing our own cinnamon and nutmeg, to personal sized smoothies and creamy desserts. The prices have dropped greatly since I purchased mine and you can find a complete set for around $44 on Amazon <--buy yours now!.

4. Food Processor

Great for quick chopping which is common when preparing RAW foods on the go. We chose a 7-cup Cuisinart Food Processor that serves us right. We can grate, chop, dice, slice, knead raw doughs, and more. Amazon offers these for $99.99.

5. Dehydrator
*sigh* We have a love-hate relationship with our Excalibur Dehydrator. We love it because it allows us to achieve "cooked-like" textures, dry our own fruits and herbs without killing any nutrients or enzymes, and curve warm food cravings. It's like we have our own raw vegan oven! We sometimes even use it to hasten the sprouting process. The downside is that a dehydrator is not a time-sensitive piece of equipment. Achieving your desired results could take anywhere from 4 - 24 hours with temperatures never going above 110 degrees. In addition to the time, dehydrated foods lack moisture and will often suck the water from your body to hydrate itself in preparation for digestion. DRINK MORE WATER when eating lots of dehydrated foods! So whats the price on this bad boy? A 9-tray Excalibur runs about $250 but this would be the "high end" dehydrator. There are smaller, more affordable ones on Amazon for $35 and up but the fan is on the underside, causing the foods on the top to be neglected. An Excalibur has a fan in the back so each tray is treated equally :)
