Mindful Mommy Monday: The Active Mommy

Happy Monday Mommies!!

The ACTIVE MOMMY!

Or .. the I wanna workout be healthy and look sexy but I have two crazy kids mommy! Lol. Whichever fits your life. Lol.  Who doesn't want to be active and fit?  Especially after having kids.  Recently though, I've (not I as much as we - Daddy Hoot and I) having the workout struggle (well starting a workout regimen struggle).  I have to remind myself (and find the time to do it) to shower most days .. When am I supposed to workout for 30 minutes?  And we like to work out together ...but between work, traffic, errands, two kids, dinner, cleaning, and life... by the end of the night all we want to do is sit down together and de-parent ourselves for a few hours.  Which we do!  Lol.  So what now?  Unless we have the resources to spend over $100 a month at a gym that has childcare, we better have other plans.

Health has become a large concern of mine lately.  I want my entire family healthy.  We all need each other.  And when one is down, we all miss out (especially when the down one is Mommy).  So things I've done to kick start some action (and get my moderately ready for my wedding and boudoir photoshoot); I changed the way we eat .. slowly but surely.  Making substitutions and adding healthier things.  Which was not as difficult as one may think .. but it is a conscious decision you have to maintain.  It all starts at the store.  Just DECIDE to bring different things into the house.  I do 85% of the cooking.  So, what I cook - my family will eat.  I made small changes at first less fast food, prepping meals, no more CANNED vegetables, way fewer frozen vegetables, healthier meat options, added a larger variety of vegetables, and a few other small things.

Daddy Hoot laughs but I work out with Hoot #2.  I carry that little guy around like a 20lb weight!  I do squats with him, lunges, leg lifts, and more!  She has been sick but as soon as she's well .. We'll be passing the baby!  Getting a good little workout in.  I can't wait.  Hoot #1 is ALWAYS moving but he likes to do yoga and other workouts.  We're getting there.  :-)

I know more than anyone that having kids means having a crazy schedule!  No two days are the same around our house.  So it's hard to say "Everyday at X o'clock I'm going to workout."  Who knows what I'll be doing at X o'clock on any given day.  But I can decide to be active.  I can make sure I'm working my muscles and getting my heart rate up.  I can keep my intent to go out for walks and take the little Hoots to the park more.  Stay active!  No matter what you're doing.  Sitting and watching TV?  Tighten your core and do some lifts off the couch (I'll get shots of me doing these things later) or squats.  It's easier than you think.  And I'm no personal trainer, I haven't had a steady workout routine since Elijah was born, and I'm no big fitness buff.  I'm a regular mommy trying to lose a regular 20lbs and make a healthier family.  There's no way we can take care of anyone else if we can't take care of ourselves.

We can do this!

Goal: Mommy & Me workout 20-30 mins | At least three times a week.  I don't know one mommy that can't carve out 20 minutes when it's just her and baby!
Result: Healthier Mommy!

Great Mommy & Me Blog

Let's get to some of the old news. :-) Our book!  How has it been going?  Do we like it?  Have we started using any of the skills?  I have not gotten into the "skills" portion yet.  But I have been more conscious of my interactions with Hoot #1.  So far it's an ok read.  With the holidays I wasn't able to get as deep into it as I'd hoped.  I was enlightened by the story she told about her friend and parenting per your personality (more details at the review of the book). Book can be found here.

Yay!! We made it to week 5.  How did we all do with praise during week 4?  It may have been 2 weeks ago but we'll call it a holiday vacation. :-)  We did well with praise!  Hoot #1 is a fantastic big brother and helper around the house (usually) so this was easy.  We speak in kind and uplift everything he does well (he's put on an artshow, working on another, cleans his room just because, helps in the kitchen, etc).  He beams.  He absolutely LOVES when Daddy Hoot sees & recognizes that he's done something she taught him.  Everything is lovely.  We've had some testing moments .. but they're over and the next moment begins.

Find something your child does that makes you proud and CELEBRATE! Let them know what an awesome job you think they do and that it is appreciated and acknowledged. Show them that the little things matter.

When you spot them doing something simple like sitting & reading, congratulate them (after their done of course) and take them to pick out some books or sit and let them read to you.  Take part in the things they enjoy doing.

Good luck Mommies!!  I'm heading over to the Vlog. <3

Love you!
